Four men will appear at City of Westminster magistrates court today charged with terrorist offences. However a fifth man arrested as part of the same police operation was released without charge last night having spent a week in custody. Shaykh Asif Hussain Forooqui, a well-respected spiritual leader in the North West, issued a press release in which he thanked his counsel from Carmelite Chambers, John R Jones QC and Chris Henley, who had provided advice to Stephen Lickrish and Associates during his detention. Shaykh Farooqi’s arrest had caused shock and anger with the community and led to an appeal for calm from his local MP Dr Brian Iddon.
