PRACTICE I am a criminal defence specialist and have been instructed as Leading Junior Counsel in cases including fraud, importation and supply of drugs, money laundering, supply of firearms and sexual offences. As Junior Counsel, I have been instructed in several murder trials and have a wide experience in all areas of crime.
NOTABLE CASES INCLUDE:
R v *******: The Crown Court at Winchester. In 1997, the female defendant was convicted after trial of stabbing to death an 18 year old female whose mutilated body had been found in the street. Two of the thirty wounds that had been inflicted had transfixed the body. The offence took place in 1992 when the defendant was 12 years old. In 1998 she was transferred to Broadmoor Hosptal.
R v Jeffreys: CCC, first murder trial, victim 1 was an elderly man beaten and then thrown off the 12th floor of a tower block in Waterloo.
R v Jeffreys: CCC, second murder trial, victim 2 was an elderly man beaten to death in his own home. The defendant had originally been found unfit to plead and had spent several years in Broadmoor Hospital. He was eventually deemed fit to plead and stood trial.
R v Harris: Crown Court at Winchester, murder trial. This was a stabbing during an altercation between the defendant and the victim on the doorstep of the defendant’s home.
R v Field: The defendant was charged with the murder of his young son by cutting his throat whilst in bed. Mr Field took his own life whilst on remand in custody.
A selection of cases in which I have appeared as Leading Junior Counsel.
R v Skoglund: The Crown Court at Winchester. The defendant was a serving Detective Constable. He was acquitted of rape and indecent assault involving his two step daughters. R v McFarlane and others. The Crown Court at Maidstone, the defendant was charged with conspiracy to supply firearms. This was a ‘Flying Squad’ operation which culminated in the defendant being chased and apprehended on a railway station after having pulled a handgun and attempting to fire at the officers. R v Linton and others: The Crown Court at Winchester. The defendant was charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs. The trial spanned 4 months. R v Bowers: The Crown Court at Winchester. The defendant, with members of her family, was charged with a conspiracy to defraud homeowners by grossly overcharging for gardening work throughout Hampshire.
OTHER CASES R v ******: The Crown Court at Winchester: The defendant was a youth charged with rape of one child victim (whom the defendant photographed during the course of the offence) and attempted abduction of another on separate occasion. Police detected the defendant through similar modus operandi of offence for which the defendant stood trial and was acquitted when I represented him two years previously. R v Bryant: The Crown Court at Winchester. The defendant was charged with a rape that was alleged to have occurred several years before trial. The defendant was acquitted after trial. R v Howard: The Crown Court at Winchester. The defendant was charged with multiple rapes and indecent assaults of seven young persons over a period of 37 years. He was acquitted of 24 out of 26 counts. He pleaded guilty to the remaining two less serious counts resulting in his immediate release from custody. R v Sprange: Court of Appeal. The defendant had been convicted of the assault of a very young child whilst in her care as a baby minder. I appealed the conviction. Appeal allowed.
