PRACTICE Experience in all areas of Criminal Defence and specialisation in appellate work and Judicial Review. Background in international human rights and international criminal work. Very regularly instructed in all areas of customs and excise cases, especially drug importation and people smuggling cases. Also broad experience defending in violence offences, frauds (especially Social Security and mortgage frauds), regulatory offences, burglaries and counterfeiting and copyright offences.
Extensive experience in Prison Law and have regularly conducted adjudications and parole board hearings. Majority of work in Criminal Defence. Regularly instructed in drug importation cases. R v Cicic, Canterbury CC [2010] / R v Roddy [2010] etc Several ongoing cases representing Defendants charged with the importation of Class A drugs (8kg+) into UK. R v C and Ors, Maidstone CC [2009] Represented one of a number of soldiers charged with stealing explosives and supplying them to Scottish criminal gangs. Supervised client giving evidence on behalf of Crown and secured 1/3 sentence of other conspirators. Case reported on TV, in national newspapers and online. R v Johnson, Canterbury CC [2009] Successful defence of care home workers charged with neglect. R v. Scott Lee & Ors, Maidstone CC [2008]
Widely reported prosecution of gang using JCBs and other building equipment to remove ATM machines throughout Kent. Considerable mobile phone, cell site and forensic evidence following 4 month observation operation. R v. McDonald & Ors, Birmingham CC. [2007] Junior Counsel in largest ever conspiracy to import cannabis into UK; more than 10 tonnes imported using commercial shipping companies. Prosecution relied largely upon transcripts of overseas mobile telephone conversations.
