Criminal defence practitioner with expertise in sexual offences, fraud, prison law, the spectrum of dishonesty offences and offences involving the importation, supply and possession of drugs. Instructed in many cases of violent crime including armed robbery, aggravated burglary and wounding with intent. R v King – Kingston CC and CA (2007): Arson with intent to endanger life. A sentence of imprisonment for public protection was imposed for this and a series of other offences on a young defendant. The sentence was successfully appealed on the basis that the Judge had insufficient information to make a finding of dangerousness. (see R v King (Kiel) 2007 WL 1729824). R v Abdul Koyes – Snaresbrook CC (2007): Led by Queens Counsel in a rape case focusing on the issue of the presumption of lack of consent in circumstances where the complainant is said to have been asleep. Involved expert testimony on sleep deprivation and the effect of medication. R v Lynch (Attorney-General's Reference No.84 of 2007) (23 October 2007): Assault by penetration featuring the admission of bad character evidence relating to previous sexual offences. A
sentence of Imprisonment for Public Protection was imposed, the
Attorney-General referred the sentence on the basis that the notional
determinate term was too lenient considering the definitive guidelines
for assault by penetration. The Court of Appeal found that the
