NOTABLE CASES
R vs. H**** L**** (July 2010) - Central Criminal Court. Represented one of 2 defendants aged 15, arising out of a 'happy-slapping' incident outside a Mosque in Tooting on 31st August 2009. Originally indicted as murder, the Crown accepted pleas to manslaughter on the first day of the trial, the defendant recieved 3 years 6 months detention. R v. Steven Keegan (July 2010) - Liverpool Crown Court The defendant,
charged with murder and alternatively manslaughter was acquitted of all

R vs. Arneep Sagoo and others (April and May 2010) - Southwark Crown Court Leading junior instructed at trial of alleged money laundering and obtaining a mortgage by deception allegations of over £1m. Defendant given a deferred sentence following conviction for only £250,000 of money laundering. R vs. K. D. (For trial 2011) - Croydon Crown Court MTIC/Missing trader fraud concerning the import and allegedly circular trading of £250m of mobile telephones.
R vs. Keith Bennett (April to July 2009) – Southwark Crown Court. Successfully defended a mobile phone exporter and domestic trader (buffer and broker) in the largest MTIC/Carousel fraud ever prosecuted, with a total value of over £1bn.
R vs. Annas Ali (January to March 2009) – Croydon Crown Court. Successful defence of an alleged data collector in an extensive, high value credit card cloning fraud.
R vs. Kay Scrivener (November to December 2008) – Central Criminal Court. Successfully defended murder and ABH, in which the defendant was allegedly part of a joint enterprise attack on the deceased, using a golf club, following a row over a football.
R vs. Ricardo Calero (May to July 2008) – Central Criminal Court. Blind, Peruvian defendant acquitted of murder and manslaughter of his brother-in-law following allegations by the daughter of rape and sexual abuse
R vs. Mohammed Adan (2009) - Inner London Crown Court and Court of Appeal ([2009] EWCA Crim 1475) Appeal against sentence following the imposition of a 10-year sentence for a violent aggravated burglary.
R vs. Nissa (January to April 2008) – Snaresbrook Crown Court and Court of Appeal. Fraud involving the production of approximately 300,000 illicit CDs with an alleged loss to the music industry of about £3m. Leave granted to appeal conviction and sentence, with partial success in the Court of Appeal.
Robinson (Court of Appeal) [2007] EWCA Crim 2095 Suspended prison sentence reduced to a conditional discharge following the imposition of an unlawful sentence.
R vs. Ford (2005) – Southwark Crown Court. Money laundering the proceeds of a multi-million carousel/MTIC fraud.
R vs. Fitzgerald (2004) – Bristol Crown Court. Successful defence of an allegation of importation of £61m of cocaine hydrochloride hidden in boxes of cashew nuts. At the time, this was the biggest land seizure of cocaine in the UK
R vs. Dekson (aka Adeko) (2003) – Harrow Crown Court. Multi-million Nigerian advanced fee fraud, bank fraud and associated money laundering.
R vs. Adegbenle (2001) – Central Criminal Court and Court of Appeal ([2003] 2 Cr. App R (S.) 102). Manslaughter following botched robbery where the victim jumped from the 12th floor of a tower block.
R vs. Kevin Cobb (2000) – Central Criminal Court and Court of Appeal ([2002] 1 Cr. App. R. (S.) 19). Accident and Emergency triage nurse raping patients using the drug Madazolam. Also convicted of manslaughter following the death of a colleague who had ingested Madazolam pre-mortem on a training course.
